Vice Versa
Aaron Mall
This is an abstract description of a bazaar in my city. It shows two extremes, these extremes are factually based. The overall impact of my installation. the boldness of colors contrasts with the theme of abstraction. There is a variation of colors, shapes and textures, and variation of materials. The acrylic slabs, broken mirror, and plastic geometric shapes. The boundary of my installation is with geometric shapes. These represent the liveliness, festivity, cheerfulness, and celebrations of a typical bazaar. The addition and subtraction symbols represent the buying and selling in the market. The acrylic neon slabs represent the different economic groups. The core of the installation is the broken mirror. The two wired portraits and figurative slabs, when peeped give a broken reflection in this mirror. This represents the harsh reality, some of those negative aspects of the bazaar are rising costs, theft, transgenders, and unluckily prostitution.

what you seek is seeking you” (Bazar of my city)
Agha Haider Shah
The title of my painting depicts the harsh reality of mankind within society. Bazar is a place where we trade goods but if you look with the perspective of my character, the bazar is a place to seek wisdom and buy sagacity. The folds of man’s cloth depict holy path whereas the colors shows the purity of the soul; things that money can not buy.

Charity
Ahsan Zubair
Apart from hustle and bustle, buying and selling in bazaars, we also witness acts of good virtue by people for the needy of the city. Amidst interior city bazaars, there are special driver hotels that are feeding the poor with charity money on daily basis. This scene is worth watching, long endless queues where hundreds are fed without any haste or difference. In my painting, I’ve spotted that gesture in neon color.

I have made a 3D model for a bazaar. I have used all my toys to display it. I have used tracks for road and grass. Toy men for shopping.Artificial vegetables on a cart. A petrol pump, trees, buildings, houses, road signs, cars, bus stand. I have gained a new experience and enjoyed making this project.

Women’s Harassment
Ammar Karim Shah
Women harassment This piece brings forth the severe issue of women’s harassment in our local bazaars. The bazaar itself is inspired by our rich, historical local markets, e.g: Empress market. While the bazaars may be beautiful in their own unique way, sexual harassment remains a troublingly unresolved problem that persists in every corner of these bazaars. I portray this through the invasive eyes staring at these women, stained red, the hands of abusers reaching out for their bodies and clothes. The different clothing of all these women highlights that women’s harassment has nothing to do with the clothes a woman wears, and everything to do with the abuser. These women are blindfolded, illuminating how most women choose to ignore such incidents and abusers as it leads them to believe that it is the only way to exist peacefully, as harassment becomes a systematic part of our society.

This picture depicts a colorful and vast bazaar of my city. It is one of many bazaars – big and small that you can see if you visit my city. This scene reminds me of a bazaar as seen early morning, ready to welcome the visitors. The tree is a part of the bazaar, a living object connected with nature. This painting is illustrated using markers on 180 gsm paper.

I’ve worked on the topic BAZAARS OF MY CITY using technology and new tools to create digital art. My artwork depicts a bazaar within a residential area, as people flying kites can be seen on their rooftops. A lot of our old bazaars were residential areas in the olden time. The evolution and integration of the two is an interesting and cultural phenomenon that can only be seen in this part of the world. I have been working on this piece for some time now. I hope it’ll be worth it!

Out of curiosity, I decided to paint the scenario before the bazaar’s opening. I wanted to depict how the usually busy bazaar, with its bustling crowds and dissonance, could also be a place of peacefulness and calm, albeit; before it opened. Therefore showing the preparations and structures that had to be set up to make this kinetic experience into an everyday reality. I made use of watercolor paints and penned in the details to give more attention to the intricacies of the bazaar which are the very reasons that make the bazaars so captivating to see.

Spirit of the City
Emaz Kareem
It is within these very walls and streets of the bazaar where every other individual’s daily life and journey intersects. The encounters, experiences and events as well as the emotions and memories contained in this bustling part of Karachi hold the entire city’s spirit- Bystanders will find the very essence of the city whether it be a myriad of colours or the cacophony of sounds of the local street vendors, street hawkers, shopkeepers etc. It is as if the bazaar houses thousands of untold tales yet to be narrated and passed on to further generations. I made this work by combining watercolours with a cross etching style pointer. Furthermore, I made use of markers for making even more definite colour contrasts and highlights to create vivid imagery. (Emaz Kareem 11-F)

Ghanta ghar bazaar Multan
Fizza Faraz
When I heard about the topic of the young canvas competition (The Bazaar of My City) the first thing that clicked in my mind was the Ghanta Ghar Bazaar. Then I started my internet research where I got different pictures of the location then in order to get a more realistic view I personally visited Ghanta Ghar and took some more pictures. Next I built a sketch and started colouring it, I love to use markers, caryons, and colour pencils altogether to bring my work to life. It took two days to complete my masterpiece. I hope you understand my hardwork, the concept of a bazaar, small shops near the clock tower, and the mosque in the center. Multan is usually referred to as the city of saints. Whenever tourists visit Multan they do visit this famous clock tower bazaar. This clock tower was destroyed dates back but was then restored and was converted into a museum. The motive to create this picture was to represent the historical bazaar of my city. As a student of A levels it was difficult for me to take out time for this and even I had to face much difficulty while submitting its literally fourth time I’m typing this description (the struggle is real).

Hustle bustle at Jhal bazaar before Eid
Hadia Zia
This piece is inspired by the famous Jhal bazaar of Faisalabad where you can get anything, from Fabric and shoes to fake designer purses, and get fabric dyed for a third of the price. I began on this a month ago starting with the shops, made from shoe boxes and later painted with acrylic paint. The human figures are all made with air-dry clay and then painted with acrylic paint followed by a clear gloss varnish. All the figures required a week from sculpting to painting and then glazing. The samosas are also made of clay and follow the same process. This model shows all the staple shops that you can find in almost any part of the bazaar. The purse shop on the right is closed because the shops never open at the same time and most of the time shops are closed because of a wedding or a funeral. Next to it is the shoe store where a woman is looking at some flip-flops while her son just wants something to eat. Then we have a woman in the fabric shop trying to find the perfect fabric to go with her outfit and a hopeful salesman showing her everything. Next, we of course have a samosa shop because no bazaar is ever complete without one. Once you come shopping, you’re going to be here for at least three hours. Lastly, we have the dyer’s shop with the owner dying some fabric given to him by another customer who needs a very specific shade of dye. Eid shopping would never be complete without a visit to Jhal.

Shahi bazar
Hafsa Riaz Ahmed
The Shahi Bazaar is considered one of the longest Bazaars, running about 2km long. It starts from Pakka Qila and ends at Market Tower, also known as the Navalria Clock Tower. This is one of the oldest market streets in our city of Hyderabad. By the name, you can imagine its historical importance. Hundreds of people come here for breakfast and the bazaar employs a large number of people. You can have many options like puri, nihari, paratha, roti, etc but here is famous mong ki daal ka halwa….

My artwork is based on the famous bazaars of my birth city, which is Peshawar. It is famous for its food and tourism as it is one of the oldest cities in Pakistan with a recorded history that dates back to 539 BC. My work consists of a collage of the Qissa Khawani Bazaar, the Sir Cunningham Clock Tower also known as the Ghanta Ghar, Sadar, Old Peshawar (shehar), Hayattabad, and other old bazaars. Since the category, I chose was mixed media, I decided to make a collage on a canvas using prints, parts of my painting, acrylics, and other materials.

This artwork is the depiction of Karachi’s renowned thrift market ‘Itwaar bazaar’. A place filled with economical goods, A go-to place for the majority of karachiites. I was inclined towards the idea of the Sunday market as it’s a ritual of Sunday celebration in Karachi. A place where every shade mesmerises the eye, where an endless amount of goods is kept. Bazaars of Sheikhupura
Hareem Ahmad
This is my perspective of the bazaars of sheikhupura. The entrance gate of Jinnah park bazaar and the border is drawn from scratch. The bazaars are dusty with buildings that need to be repainted. So, the use of saturated colors is avoided. I’ve assigned characteristics of animals to living and nonliving. I’ve associated cunning traits of a fox with sellers. There are mannequins meant to attract customers. Since peacocks are known to flaunt their beauty,I’ve associated them with mannequins. Its wings are substituted by roti trays.I’ve used images of traditional rugs as background for the jewelry and Pedlars.

The Festivities in Small places
Hashim Durrani
Every year during the month of Zilhuj people come to this place to buy an animal to sacrifice it to Allah. This is a place of giving; where people who have been raising these animals for the whole year finally get to reap the fruit of all their hard work. Sure this place is smelly and overcrowded but this is a place of festivity enjoyment and life. This place is a Bakra Mandi: a place that is hectic yet beautiful.

“Bazaars of my city”
Hooriya Abdul Rahim
A bazaar is a marketplace consisting of multiple small stalls or shops. Bazaars are located in vaulted or covered streets that had doors on each end and served as a city’s central marketplace. The theme for this contest is “Bazaars of my city” and with the help of mixed media technique I used acrylic paints, poster paints, cotton for clouds, play dough (for making vegetables and fruits), stickers, balloons, cloth (for making tappers), formica (for showing buildings), beads, “Gotta” flowers, different lentils, toy characters (representing people) and many different colors to present a beautiful bazaar. With different types of strokes using different brushes and color contrast, shades, and tones I tried to give my painting a realistic effect.

Janani Jagannathan
This picture shows a traditional bazaar on the east coast of Malaysia where vendors mainly comprise women selling herbs, fruits, and vegetables. This painting in which acrylic paint is used includes various techniques, such as paper mosaic for the clothes of the main three vendors. Collage work using pieces of corrugated board is used for the mat. To create texture of the ground, pieces of pulp fiber cups are glued before being painted over. Baskets were shaped with lace mash and strings, toothpicks were added to the straw hats and lastly shiny plastic beads were used as buttons for the vendor’s clothes to make it more interesting.

Bazaar of my city
Leeza Ureen
Since childhood, I have been a big foodie. I loved to go to local areas to shop but mainly enjoyed local food such as gol gappy, samosas, and vada pao. Slowly it turned into a habit of mine and I found myself truly immersed in this ritual of mine to go to local markets at least once a week each time discovering new corners, new dhabas, and new dishes. I wanted to convey my love for local food and my appreciation for not only the architecture of my city’s local bazaar but the strong aura of life that they give off.

Colours of “Itwaar Bazaar”
Mahad Hassan
This is my 2-D masterpiece and the inspiration behind it was our famous local “Itwaar Bazaar”. I wanted it to look colorful and vibrant so I used bright gouache paints along with markers. This painting specifically shows the ‘dupatta section’ of itwaar bazaar. Lots and lots of dupattas, of every imaginable color are hung from the ropes held at sides and the rest are folded and present in stacks in front of them. The mud track in between runs a long way down the bazaar.

bazar of my city
Natalia Bukhtawar
MY master piece is about bazar of my city. A scene in the Bazaar A bazaar is a busy and crowded place. Customers and carriages rub shoulders with each other. We see many scenes in bazaar like, selling vegetables, fruits, garments, and many stalls of fast food. They all lay their selling goods in raw beside the road. The road may or may not narrow. The stray cattle move freely. The narrow road and crowd may cause of several accidents. Sometimes crowd may be over of its capacity. That enhances activities of pick- pockets. The police man tries to regulate the traffic. On the whole, it is a dirty and crowded place.

curiosity
Nimra Rafique
Conceptual Art is what I mostly make and am greatly inspired by it. I shot a 30-minute video of a bazaar in Islamabad, converted it into an mp3 file and then used a code that converted it into audio visualised form. The circles in line are representing a certain range of frequency. The bigger the circle, the louder the bazaar was at that particular spot. The image on the right side of this art piece was made from an online source that stacked the frames of the video one after another which gave it sort of a barcode look. The image on the left is the average colour of each frame taken and stacked on each other which now forms a barcode. The most frequently shown colours were then added to the circles. This way, we can directly see which part of the bazaar was how loud, at what location. My inspiration for this art piece was taken by visually impaired people. Their understanding of visuals is through touch or sound. I particularly focused on the sound here. To be able to make sense out of something you can only hear, to only be able to estimate when in a bazaar what the bazaar could look like based on how loud it got, curiosity filling their minds. I aim for this art piece to turn the table onto us and make us imagine what any place we go to (in this scenario the bazaar) would sound like only by using our visual capabilities. It places us in a vulnerable spot as we aim to guess what sounds we’re supposed to ‘hear’ but we only use one of our senses to guess. This provokes curiosity the mind needs to think of the world more than just what is seen.

Empress Market Karachi-Landmark of my city
Omar Saad
EMPRESS MARKET, KARACHI LANDMARK OF MY CITY By S.M.Omar Bin Saad Class IV BSS As soon as I got to know the theme, the picture of the magnificent bazaar “Empress Market” came to my mind. This famous market traces its origin from the British era which made it more fascinating to me as it reminds me of our past. After its renovation, the grandeur of the monument has been restored. The recycled material used as walls is empty boxes of tissues and shampoos. The choice of brown paper to cover the boxes was critical as it should look realistic. After that comes the tracing of the design. I painted the roof which I made with cardboard to give it a texture similar to the actual roof. The colour of choice for the roof is Carmine and for the windows is Turquoise. To give it a more realistic feel, I added stalls using fabric. For figurines and food items, I opted for Air dry clay. It was a huge project to take up and I thoroughly enjoyed working on it.

Diorama of Thailand’s Floating Market
Podchara Thavornpatanakulw
This artwork is inspired by Thailand’s Amphawa floating market. It is one of the most iconic tourist attractions to visit in Thailand. It encouraged me to create this artwork because it transcends the hard work and the traditional way of trading among Thai people. The main structure of this floating market and the boats are made of pressed foam. I used recycled cardboard that I have ripped off for the top layer of the roofs which reflect Thailand’s flag. The bridges are made out of popsicle sticks. For the miniature figures like the goods and fruits, I used clay. I used two plastic boxes to shape the river. To give a special effect, I painted the river bed with brown color. For the temples behind the market, I used pressed foam. I added the temple because I wanted to show some Thai culture to the artwork. Lastly, I used chopsticks and LED for the light posts to illuminate the whole diorama. I hope this artwork inspires people around the world to visit and discover the amazing culture of the land of smiles, Thailand.

Bazaar of my sister as a tornado..
Roomina Sajid
The city of my bazaar is an utter expression of a tornado of festivity and dullness. A place where ones can find solace, still keeping in regard the whole chaos a bazaar carries. Our Bazaar is filled with people who fight their inner despair to keep floating in the tornado of social pressure to acquire wealth and maintain status. Taking that idea into consideration, this installation is a representation of a tornado, with these figures floating in it showing how people are stuck in this net of societal pressure, at different heights to represent people from different statuses. Besides all this negativity, a bazaar is still full of joy and festivity e.g how some people find shopping relaxing, and this positivity of my bazaar is represented by these colourful lights, Showing an overall tornado of again festivity and dullness.

It is one of the oldest existing markets in Pakistan and is a one-stop shopping solution for everyone. Here you can find vendors of clothes, food, handicrafts, jewellery, shoes, and other household items as well. My masterpiece portrays a landmark bazaar in the heart of KL city, famously known as Chow Kit Market. Even though I’ve not been inside this market but I always have a glimpse of it every time my parents drive me to KLCC for shopping. From the outside, I can see it is always busy, lively and crowded with visitors from many different cultures and countries to come here to explore or to buy something. The bazaar has a wet market and a dry market and lots of delicious local street food too such as nasi lemak, roti canai and others. The dry market is fill with colourful and interesting items such as clothes, textiles, souvenirs, spices, local snacks, shoes, handicraft, handbags, electronic items and many other things. The wet market has green vegetables, all kind of meat and seafood, local fruits such as rambutan, durian, banana and others. This market is also located very near to many major shopping malls, MRT stations and also the iconic KLCC Twin Tower. It’s a fun place to be and never get bored. So based on this, I have created this masterpiece to illustrate this fun place which I wish I will visit one day.

I am showing Bazaar e Husn of Multan in this art piece. What I want to portray here, is the hypocrisy in our culture. We condemn this kind of stuff and call it illegal and the biggest sin, however at the same time we promote objectifying women’s bodies and we exactly don’t know what is going on behind that بند جھروکے. My art installation emphasizes an inclusive future. I’ve selected a bazaar that exists in interior Rawalpindi and specifically belongs to a low middle class but is very high in serving humanity. The small driver hotels here serve the needy 24hrs with charity money. The food served here caters to an endless queue every day. Here my installation depicts this charity with various dice which have different symbols of shopping. The symbols are marked with dice numbers randomly showing the importance of shopping in our lives. The top dice with the highest no 6 is symbolized with a charity icon depicting humanity above all.

When I read the topic, ‘Bazars of my city’, I immediately had an image of a busy street in my head. People everywhere, stalls with various colored foods, loads of colours, and lights. This then reminded me of a trip I took to Lahore’s inner city, where I did a lot of photography in the markets. Combining the image in my head and one of the pictures I found, I created this piece on my iPad using an Autodesk sketchbook, first sketching everything out in black. By the end, I decided that the black lines looked a bit too harsh with the slightly muted background tones so I added another layer and removed the sketch at the end after coloring.
