In this masterpiece, I used my own photo. I divided it in half, with the half of my face drawn upon while the other was left as it is. It represents who I am, both outside and inside. On the left side, it represents how people can see me on the outside– what is seen by the naked eye. On the right side, it symbolizes my inner persona– who I really am and not what others perceive. I showed through this drawing who I really am and what I have been through in my journey as an artist. To be honest, I thought that being a good artist is just creating realistic paintings, sculptures and other formal art pieces. But upon drawing this artwork, I did not think of what the result will look like. I focused on the process of the artwork rather than the artwork itself. I realized through this drawing that being perfect is not what art is. Art is how we express ourselves, no matter how imperfect it is. I named this artwork “Creative Freedom” because that is what I felt during the time I made this piece. I hope that when people see my artwork, they will see beyond the jagged lines and imperfect strokes and see who I really am as an artist– a kind of imperfect girl who doesn’t entirely care on what is on the outside but cherishes what is on the inside. “Be who you art” is also one of the main messages of the drawing, wherein I want my viewers and fellow artists to not be afraid to express who they are in their art since it mirrors their real personality.
