Empress Ke Rang

Fatima Hassan

Description :

My gouache painting is inspired by none other than the Empress Market in Karachi. This hustling and bustling bazaar is a single stop for most of your culinary needs, may it be fresh fruits and vegetables or rich and aromatic local spices. In the background of this painting you can see the ancient building from the British era, that has now been reclaimed. All the stalls in this bazaar are temporary, set up and taken down everyday, with crates that function as makeshift tables (as shown) and large clothes hung instead of roofs. All of this is painted in the foreground of this artwork. The vivid and eye-catching colors and beauty of this bazaar has been the inspiration of many artists, and continues to be one too.
