The Cherished Memories

My piece is about how Chinese families celebrate the New Year with lo hei being an important aspect of the occasion. Personally for me, I am Chinese so, this is a celebration with a lot of meaning to me. In my shoes, the title, “The Cherished Memories” has a deeper meaning to it than what it seems on the surface. This piece was not just an artwork but, an expression of my dear memories with my beloved brother. Red clothes. Red lanterns. Yee sang. To many this may be just “some objects’ but to me, these “objects” are part of my past and they will forever stay with me. There are small aspects to my piece such as the smiley face on the shirt and the blue bird painting which are in fact, symbols of happiness. The mediums I have used is watercolour for the people, Yee sang, floor, walls, table, plates, lanterns and clothes. On the other hand, for the blue bird painting, acrylic was used. Thin round tip brushes and thick round tip brushes were used for both art mediums along with 0.5 mm and 0.1 mm thick outline pens for the line art.
