Artist Statement:
For my artwork on the theme of light and reflection in architecture, I used mixed media to explore how light interacts with different surfaces. I started with wood as the base material, carving intricate patterns with an art knife to represent architectural elements. The wood’s texture added depth, reflecting the rawness of natural architecture. To capture the play of light, I used oil paints to create rich, layered colours that mimic how light reflects off surfaces like glass and metal. Shadows were emphasised through careful blending of paints, highlighting the contrast between light and dark. I also experimented with materials like metallic foils and transparent films, adding reflective qualities that enhanced the illusion of light bouncing off surfaces. This technique allowed me to showcase the dynamic relationship between light, shadow, and architectural forms in a creative way.
