Eclipsing Growth

Artist Name: Hamdan Zaeem Effendi

About Artist:

I am eleven years old and I love playing Basketball and Football. I want to be a pilot when I grow up. I have always been interested in Art and love creating various art pieces. My father and I have always worked together to create art posters and installations. I also like to create posters and presentations on Canva.

Artist Statement:

Eclipsing Growth explores the relationship between light, shadow, and transformation. This installation uses three-dimensional forms to cast evolving shadows, symbolising personal and collective growth. Just as light shifts throughout the day, our understanding and experiences reshape who we are. Shadows, often perceived as absence, here become an integral part of the artwork revealing that growth is not only about what is seen, but also what emerges in contrast. Inspired by nature’s cycles and human resilience, Eclipsing Growth invites viewers to reflect on how challenges, like shadows, are not obstacles but necessary elements of progress and change. I have used recycled cardboard and paper to create the installation.

Mixed Media Art:

Mixed media is a term used to describe artworks composed from a combination of different media or materials. Students can combine a variety of media and artistic techniques to create the Art piece. The painting and drawing techniques may include layering, texturizing, slicing, weaving, collage and creating a peeled paint effect. The materials that can be used vary from cloth, wood, paper, paint, metal, stones, and more. In this type of art different media or materials are mixed into one piece.
