Artist Name: Abdullah Mehmood
About Artist:
I’m an A-Levels student who likes to capture the innate beauty of buildings, nature, celestial bodies, and everything else, although I am constrained by my equipment, or a lack thereof. I try to evoke a certain emotion with pictures, whether it be nostalgia, an appreciation of the cosmos, or a sense of marvel at architecture. Besides photography, I occasionally dabble in calligraphy and music, and lamenting the oppressive light pollution, which is the bane of my endeavours.
Artist Statement:
Interestingly, the idea for this particular photograph was rather spontaneous. While carelessly spamming pictures at the Lahore Fort, I noticed an alluring symmetry on one particular façade of the fort. Something in those neat arches and the eroded walls immediately caught my attention. While composing the photograph, I aimed to align the stairs with the façade to capture the symmetry reminiscent of the more popular Mughal structures like the Taj Mahal. The medieval structure, the greyed-out walls peeling off to reveal yet another layer of construction underneath, and the worn-out stairs all perfectly encapsulate the age of the fort. The lighting at that particular moment created a dichotomy of light and shadows which really brought out the age and depth in this structure, an echo to the faded glory of one the greatest empires, now only seen in remnants of masonry and crumbling arches.
