Artist Name: Syeda Afraima Fayyaz
About Artist:
I am Afraima, an O3 student and an aspiring artist who learns through observation, rooted in a deep fascination with the world. I believe in experimentation to broaden my horizons as a person, and I strive to ensure that my work holds meaning in one way or another even if it simply allows the viewer to relive the emotions of an experience. I also believe that art is an emotion; it doesn’t require extensive learning to be expressed, yet it communicates with both society and the universe itself, transcending boundaries at every level.
Artist Statement:
As the title suggests, this artwork depicts the feeling of sitting in a place lit by nothing but moonlight evoking serenity for some and dread for others, depending on how you perceive it. The idea comes from my late-night walks in my yard, where the moon is often enveloped by drifting clouds and praised by glimmering stars, while it casts a faint glow onto the grapevines, the roof, the walls, and everything in between.
Amid the artificial light that surrounds us today, we sometimes forget the heavenly quality of natural forms of light. Moonlight may not illuminate the entire path as the sun does, but it serves as a guiding source in the darkest of times. Therefore, you can still find your way to walk if not to sprint because if you do not walk, you will never find your way out of the dark.
