Artist Statement:
The Badshahi Mosque in Lahore, Pakistan, is a stunning example of Mughal architecture, commissioned by Emperor Aurangzeb in 1671 and completed in 1673.
WHAT INSPIRED ME
The main thing which inspired me was its architecture. The Badshahi Mosque features classic architecture, with a large central dome, four smaller domes, and towering minarets. They used red bricks, which was very unusual at that time and influenced the whole world. It differentiated it from the other monuments, as the other religions built their monuments using simple marble and clay materials. They decorated it with calligraphy from the Quran, which also inspires me.
First, I drew this monument on a sheet of paper using a black pointer and then cut it out. Then, I splattered coffee-shade paint on another sheet to give the impact of old times. Then, I pasted the drawing on the coffee-shaded sheet. It is a mixed media work.
