Artist Name: Maryam Amin
About Artist:
Hi, I’m Maryam Amin, a Grade 6 student at Beaconhouse Newlands, Lahore. I’ve always loved playing with colours and expressing myself through art. My favourite medium is acrylic, but I’m also learning to work with watercolours. I usually focus on drawing people and body structures, though I’ve recently been working on improving my landscapes. It can be challenging to capture reflections and colours accurately, but I enjoy the process and love learning new techniques along the way.
Artist Statement:
My artwork, “A Stroll in Downtown,” captures the beauty of a glowing city at sunset, reflected on the water below. By using bright acrylic colors, I aimed to create a sense of warmth and nostalgia. The contrast between the cool blue skyscrapers and the warm autumn trees represents the harmony between urban life and nature. The reflection in the water was challenging, but it adds depth and a dreamy effect to the scene.
I usually focus on drawing people and human anatomy, but this painting was an opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and explore landscapes. Through this piece, I wanted to express my love for my birthplace and the memories associated with it. The golden sun symbolizes hope and continuity, while the bridge serves as a connection between the past and the present.
This artwork is special to me because it represents both personal and artistic growth.
